Adam Bateman

Adam Bateman attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and went on to receive his MFA in sculpture from the Pratt Institute in New York in 2003.   He has shown extensively in the US and abroad, most recently in solo shows at BYU Museum of Art in Provo, Utah and at HPGRP Gallery, New York.  He is currently preparing for a solo show entitled Volumes this September at HPGRP Gallery, New York.  Adam also directs the Central Utah Art Center (CUAC), in which he curates and coordinates exhibitions of contemporary art and community arts education.  Adam uses components of language as a physical medium to create sculptural installations.  He believes that objects, especially art objects, are signifiers like words and all together are a sign system that should be read, like one would read a text, to be understood. Untitled (Landscape), which will be featured in Piles, embodies this theory by forming a carpet of painted alphabet pasta on the floor.  Adam lives and works in Utah.
