Andy Monk

After studying art as an undergraduate at Oberlin College in Ohio, Andy Monk continued his art education at the Studio Art Centers International in Florence and at the University of Richmond’s program in Rome.  He currently lives and works in New York.  Andy accumulates minute ephemera from everyday life, refashioning tiny objects into humorous, occasionally bittersweet assemblages that allude to themes of memory and domesticity.  Andy’s works Up In Smoke, A Shelter in the Storm, and Getting Off to an Okay Start will be featured in Piles.   These works represent floor plans of his former residences composed of thousands of matchsticks, which he will burn in two phases during the show opening on July 8th.  His work is featured in the collections of Donna de Salvo, Bill and Charlotte Ford, Jasper Johns, and Kathy Fuld, among many others.
