Justine Reyes
Justine Reyes lives and works in New York. In 2004 she received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and her BFA from Syracuse University in 2000. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally including Proyecto Circo at the 8th Havana Biennial, Cuba; Contemporary Istanbul, Turkey; the Queens International 4 at the Queens Museum of Art in 2009; and the Humble Arts Foundation’s 31 Women in Art Photography in 2010. Reyes will show her series of four large-scale color photographs entitled These Last Things in Piles, which documents the interior of four drawers from her uncle’s dresser after he passed away. The title refers to the Novissima or the Four Last Things that every man must face; Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell, referencing both her uncle’s Catholic faith and also the things we leave behind when we die. These drawers are the last physical trace or vestige of her uncle, left untouched in his memory. For more information, please visit her website at http://www.justinereyes.com.
