After earning his B.F.A. in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, Max Lawrence moved to Philadelphia and co-founded Space 1026, an artist-run collective with studio and gallery spaces. Space 1026 produces monthly shows of work in silk-screening, graphic design, painting, and audio-video production. To these activities Lawrence added a long-running membership in Vox Populi, another arts collective. He’s had solo shows at REload Gallery in Philadelphia, the SFMOMA Annex in San Francisco, and the DUMBO Arts Festival in Brooklyn, among many others. His work has been exhibited in group shows from San Francisco to London. In 2008 he served as symposium speaker and artist-in-residence at MTL Pop Montreal. He lives and works in Philadelphia.
